The Early Years programme is specially designed for EtonHouse’s youngest international students from age 18 months to 6 years. There are four grade levels offered in Early Years: Pre-Nursery, Nursery, Reception and Year One. Students progress onto the next grade level year after year.
The Early Years curriculum adopts both Reggio Emilia philosophy and inquiry based IB Primary Years Programme (PYP). Reggio Emilia is an innovative and inspiring approach to early childhood education. It places the child at the centre of the learning and values the child as capable and a knowledgeable being. The founding principles of the Reggio approach are respect, responsibility, and community through interaction and discovery. Community and family involvements play integral parts in the EtonHouse Early Years programme.
In order to create a seamless transition for Early Years students to move onto primary years of learning, Early Years programme interwoven IB PYP with the Reggio approach which integrates Language, Unit of Inquiry, Art, Music and Math throughout the day to create an environment that allows students to interact and make sense with the world around them. Early Years teachers at EtonHouse are both IB and Reggio trained to positively guide and foster child-initiated learning.
Early Years at EtonHouse is a dual language environment with each class taught by at least one native English speaking teacher and one native Mandarin speaking co-teacher. This provides opportunity for students to be confident and competent in both languages.
